About Breast Cancer
![]()
Every year, 1 million new cases of breast cancer are detected. It is the most prevalent malignancy in women, comprising 18% of all cancers (in women) worldwide. According to the WHO, 502,000 deaths occur from breast cancer every year, making it the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women.
With risks increasing with age, breast cancer usually affects women above 50. Early detection of breast cancer can greatly reduce its mortality. Women age 40 and above should get a mammogram every 1 or 2 years. Interestingly, about 80% of women who have breast cancer have no known family history.
